It is also shown that much of Luz's faults come from her, not knowing how to express her negative emotions in healthy ways to the point where she tries hiding them instead of being open about them. Luz is shown to have a sense of responsibility that surprisingly mature for someone her age, as she freely acknowledges that she is responsible for her own actions to the point where she will blame herself for something she has caused, even when it is not really her fault. Upon arrival, Luz decides to make her dream of becoming a witch come a reality, after she befriends a witch named Eda and becomes her apprentice. Luz is a self-assured 14-year-old human girl from Connecticut, who accidentally stumbles upon a portal that transports her to the Boiling Isles.
